I've Signed a Contract to Write a Book!

I've just signed a contract to write a technical book for a major publisher. I probably shouldn't mention any details until I've delivered the book and the publisher makes a public announcement. I will say how surprised I am at how smoothly things have gone so far. I submitted a query a few weeks ago and had a positive response in a few days. I turned a proposal around over the weekend, after that some traveling and vacations for various parties interfered, but we were able to negotiate the contract with no trouble at all. I was especially surprised at how reasonable the publisher was about the changes we requested. I had expected the same sort of nonsense I've seen in contract negotiations between companies and IT vendors. I'm collaborating with another author, a friend, but I will wait to say who until there's some public announcement, just in case the other author was wanting to surprise someone.

Thanks. I'm thrilled to have a book to write, but I'm still hoping to sell a fiction book someday.
